Autumn 2017 Class 2 Topics

Dear Parent/ Carer,
 
I would like to take this opportunity to let you know what topics Class 2 will be covering throughout the Autumn Term.
Literacy: In literacy the children will be looking at the stories of Julia Donaldson and learn about the author. For non-fiction they will write lists and captions. They will write poetry about the senses.
Numeracy: This term the children will be learning about place value, counting on and back and addition and subtraction. They will continue to learn the four basic operations and use these for problem solving.
Science: This term the children will learn about Everyday Materials, looking at their properties. They will learn about seasonal change and focus on Autumn to Winter.
Design Technology / Art: For the first half of the term the children will be doing art and the project is Self-Portraits. After the half term break they will do D.T. and make a wind-up toy.
Music: This term the children will be exploring pitch, writing a class song and undertaking creative and analytical listening. They will also learn songs for the Christmas performance.
PE: The children will learn the skills to participate in striking and fielding games and then they will do dance. Please remember to remove any earrings on Monday and Tuesday and also to include a pair of trainers, jogging bottoms and a P.E. top as they will be outside on the field when the weather allows before the half term break.
PSHE: This term is about Developing Confidence and they will each have a turn to do show and tell. 
RE: This term is dedicated to learning about Christianity. They will learn about the Nativity story and why it is important to Christians.
Geography/History The first half term is dedicated to learning about locational knowledge and we will look at the countries that make up the United Kingdom. After half term we will do history and learn about the Great Fire of London and Guy Fawkes.
Computing: The children will learn about internet safety.  They will also learn how to create, store and manipulate text using the story of The Hungry Caterpillar.
